PCS Cell Phone Sites = Reduced ENG Range and Noisy Audio and Video for KAKE-TV.

How about a PCS Cell Phone Site blasting a -5.2 dbm signal into your microwave receiver?  This is one of KAKE-TV's ENG Sites. This site uses NURAD Horn Antennas.

KAKE-TV's ENG antenna line was removed from the receiver, and connected to a spectrum analyzer.  The signals to the left of center are coming from PCS Cell Phone "Block F" (1970 MHz to1975 MHz), while the signals to the right of center are coming from PCS "Block C"  (1975 MHz to1990 MHz).   All these high-power signals are received and amplified by KAKE-TV's  Nurad Horn Antennas and LNA System.  PCS Cell Phone Sites are received with little or no attenuation on equipment designed before about 1998.

KAKE-TV - before & after
The above photos are the before and after pictures of our SuperFilter/LNA from a typical "downtown" ENG Site.

The above pictures show the 70 MHz IF of a microwave receiver before & after installing our SuperFilter/LNA.

Before purchasing another SuperFilter/LNA, the unit was tried at a 2nd location - filters only.  The LNA automatically goes into bypass (fail-safe relays) when no power is applied to system.
